Conference Presenters

During the ten nights of the Journey 2 Joy Bible Conference, there will be two special guest speakers: Dr. James R. Doggett, Sr. and Dr. Rupert Bushner, both from Orlando, Florida. The host pastor for the Journey 2 Joy Bible Conference is Dr. Emil D. Peeler, senior pastor of the Capitol Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Dr. Rupert Bushner

Dr. Rupert Bushner is a native of Akron, OH, where he graduated from Buchtel High School in 1978. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Oakwood University (1983) and a Master of Divinity from Andrews University (1985). He continued to sharpen his intellect at the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH and received the Doctor of Ministry degree in 1996.

Dr. Bushner has ministered in the Allegheny West Conference, (1985-2001) Southeastern Conference, (2001-2006) He also has served as Chaplain at Oakwood University (2006-2010) he served again in the Allegheny West Conference (2010-2013) and South Central Conference, at the Mt Calvary SDA Church (2013-2018) he has served as pastor, Youth and Family Life Director, Church Growth/Evangelist and Men’s Ministry Director. Presently he is the co-pastor of the Patmos Chapel SDA in Orlando, FL.

During his matriculation at Oakwood University, he met the love of his life, Jo Ann King. They have been married for 35 years and are blessed with five adult children. The Bushner’s are the proud grandparents of eight grandchildren, one deceased and one great grandson.

In his own words, “Preaching is a privilege to talk about his best Friend (Jesus) with others.” He has shared the gospel message in South Africa, New Zealand, The United Kingdom, Canada, the Caribbean Islands and coast to coast in the United States. A lover of young people and passionate about empowering both the young and the old, his desire is to see every soul saved for the Kingdom of God. His motto for life is, “What you are is God’s gift to you, and what you become is your gift to God. What kind of gift do you want to give God? I want to give God an awesome gift!”

One of his sayings, “If you are going to go half stepping don’t go at all” It’s all or nothing for the Master”!

Dr. James Doggette, Sr.

Dynamic, Practical, and Spirit-filled, Dr. James R. Doggette, Sr. was unquestionably born, called and prepared to be a clarion mouthpiece for God for these times. His grandfather was a minister. His father was a minister. His uncle was a minister. His brother is a minister. His son is a minister. Even his grandmother was a Bible teacher, his mother was a church-school teacher, and his youngest son has served as a minister of music. It can be said that, like the family of Aaron, Dr. Doggette came from a priestly lineage and was destined to be a preacher.

After attending church schools from elementary to high school, Dr. Doggette continued his academic pursuits at Oakwood University where he earned a B.A. in Ministerial Theology. He was also awarded the Warren-Mosley Homiletics Award for demonstrating one of the highest standards of preaching excellence in his class. He later earned a Master of Divinity degree from the SDA Theological Seminary at Andrews University then continued on to earn the Doctor of Ministry degree from The School of Theology at Claremont University. His areas of emphasis were Liturgy, Homiletics and Church History.

Dr. Doggette is known as an expository preacher, a practical teacher and a church growth specialist. He has preached and conducted workshops across the globe and has been the recipient of numerous recognitions and awards. His ministerial philosophy of “CONSERVATIVE IN THEOLOGY, LIBERAL IN METHODOLOGY” has been embraced by a generation of emerging ministerial voices in Adventism.

Dr. Doggette considers his wife, the former Erin Davis who earned a MA in English/Language Arts & Secondary Education, and is currently pursuing her doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction, to be a special gift from God and his #1 supporter. He also considers his family, which includes sons Shawn, James Jr. (Demia), Austin (Aisha), Milton, daughter Tatyana, and granddaughters Morgan and Noa to be his decided advantage.
His favorite text is 1 Peter 5:5-7 which constantly reminds Him that, “God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

Dr. Emil D. Peeler, Host Pastor

EMIL DEAN PEELER was born and reared in Sacramento, California, the third son of Arlie and Thomasina Peeler. He attended Oakwood University and is a graduate of Loma Linda University (Bachelor of Arts), Andrews University (Master of Divinity), and Claremont School of Theology (Doctor of Ministry). He shares his life with his wife, Brenda, who have three adult daughters; La Donna, Nicole, and Alisha, and one grandson, Jeremiah Emil.

For over 33 years, Dr. Peeler has served in various positions of leadership in the body of Christ and broader community-most notably as pastor, conference evangelist, author, associate ministerial director, college professor, executive director of Westside Brighter Vision Foundation, and director of Church Growth and Evangelism for Southeastern California Conference.  Since July of 2016 he has served as the senior pastor of the Capitol Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church in the nation’s capital.  He is also engaged as an international evangelist and as adjunct professor at Washington Adventist University in Takoma Park, MD.

He is in constant demand as a preacher, mentor, motivational speaker and leadership and church growth consultant worldwide. Because of his love, passion, and gift for teaching God’s Word, he was recently featured in the book, “Preaching With Power II  (Spirit Reign Publishing), where he shares profound insights on the biblical exposition process and preaching. His latest publication is an e-book, entitled, Finding Your Tree, and is available on Amazon and all online distributors. Thus far, the Lord has allowed him to share in the blessing of baptizing over 6,500 people into church fellowship. His ministry motto is “When you build people- you build the Kingdom!”
